Royal Ascot: June 23

Join us for the FIRST Annual Notre Dame London Alumni Ascot Trip for the Saturday finale of the Royal Ascot.  So, ladies don your hats (top hats optional for the gentlemen) and join us for what promises to be a very unique "London" Experience.

We already have the minimum number of alumni and guests to qualify for the Group Discount.  General Admission Tickets are usually £58 and we are offering it to Notre Dame Alumni and guests at £53.50.  This includes a £1.30 per ticket donation to the Club's administrative costs.

As this is the first time the Club has organized this type of event, we are going to wait to see how much interest we have to decide whether to plan group transport or a tailgate.

Because we don't want the tickets to sell out, we are going to place our order by FRIDAY MARCH 9 at NOON.  Therefore, only people who have PAID will be included in the first ticket order!!!  Thereafter, we will endeavour to meet the requests for additional guests subject to availability.

You should have receive an eVite with all the event details. If not, please contact the club leadership for more details...

The Notre Dame Club of London is invited to a special night at the theatre on Friday, 10 November that will include the play and a post-show reception with the Producer and Cast!

Please join us for Summer and Smoke by Tennessee Williams at the Apollo Theatre.  The wonderful young stars are the gorgeous British Rosamund Pike (best known here for her film work in Die Another Day and Pride & Prejudice), and American Chris Carmack (one of the handsome cast of TV’s The OC).  Adrian Noble, 14-year artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, will stage Summer and Smoke.

Tickets are £42.50.  Plus through this offer, Notre Dame Club attendees are invited to a special reception after the show in the Stalls Bar with the Producer and cast members of Summer and Smoke.

Ticket reservations must be received by Friday, 3 November. Please note that an email reservation is a commitment to purchase tickets.

To reserve your tickets or request further details, please email Mia Montagna ’98 at mia.montagna@citigroup.com AND mia@alumni.nd.edu. (Please send to both addresses since the Citi spam-filter is extremely strong. Mia wants to ensure that she receives your order, but she promises not to duplicate it!)

Student/Alumni Dinners

Are you available on either the evening of Tuesday September 19th or Thursday, September 21st? If so, we're looking for volunteers to host 2 to 3 students for dinner on either of these nights. The idea is to have a total of 5 to 6 people at each dinner--a combination of students and alumni.  Last year, a few people hosted "at home" dinners, while others organized dinners in local restaurants, and the feedback we received was really positive.

If you'd like to participate, please e-mail Krista Nannery the following...
1. Interested in hosting dinner or just attending?
2. If hosting, can you do it at home, or would you prefer to organize something at a restaurant?
3. September 19th or September 21st?

Wed 18 Jan 06: 1st Monthly Pub Night

All alumni and partners/friends are cordially invited to attend the first monthly Pub Night this Wednesday, 18 January, at The Cardinal (a five minute walk from Victoria Tube station) from 7pm onward. (www.fancyapint.com, go Victoria tube station and select "The Cardinal")

The idea is that we will have a pub night every month on the 3rd Wednesday, so if you miss one, you don't have to fret because there should be another in roughly 28 days. As far an RSVP goes, don't concern yourself, just show up if you want to, we're going casual with this one. I reckon (my token British term) there should be a decent turn out from the number of alumni who have suggested one of these in the past, **fingers crossed**.

4 Feb: Visit to London by Father Jenkins

Please join us in welcoming University President Fr. John I. Jenkins to London!

This will be Fr. John’s first trip to the United Kingdom since his Inauguration as President of the University of Notre Dame.  Joining Fr. Jenkins will be Dr. Tom Burish, Provost and Dr. John Affleck-Graves, Executive Vice President. The senior officers will be in London on Saturday, February 4, 2006 to visit the London Program facility and to spend time with students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

As a part of his visit on February 4, Father Jenkins would like to invite you and your spouse to celebrate Mass at Notre Dame's London Centre (near Trafalgar Square), followed by dinner offsite.  Mass will begin at 5:00pm followed by a reception in the London Centre.  Dinner will begin at 7:30pm at a restaurant to be determined in the London Centre vicinity.

This is a unique opportunity to interact with the University’s three executive officers, to learn first-hand the priorities of Fr. Jenkins’ administration, and to spend time with your friends in the Notre Dame family.  In order to prepare for the event, we will need a count of participants well in advance. Please R.S.V.P. to Ken Boehner by Friday, December 23.

Spring Semester Welcome: 15 January

The London Programme has invited us to the Spring 2006 London Undergraduate Program Welcome Mass on Sunday, the 15th of January at 10:15 for 10:30 at Westminster Cathedral. This will be followed by a traditional Sunday dinner with the students at a pub for £5. You are welcome to join in. RSVP with "January Mass & Dinner" in the subject line to Dr. Laura Holt by Monday, the 9th of January.

Last semester, quite a few alumni attended this event, and it was a really nice way to meet the students. After the pub lunch, a number of the alumni, along with some of the adminstration, headed down the road to a local watering hole, which worked out quite nicely.
