Does Your Firm Have 2007 Internship Opportunities?

The fall semseter just started, but we're already planning for the Spring! Each semester, a number of Notre Dame London Program students intern at various firms and organizations around London in exchange for class credit. These internships should be 10 to 15 hours a week, and they are unpaid internships.

Should your firm have an opportunity or two for Spring Semester ND-London Program students this Spring, please contact Cornelius O'Boyle by Thursday, September 7th. Internships should offer enough structure to allow for class credit. This is a great way to keep in touch with the university, and the students are a great addition to any project.

All internships will be advertised to incoming Spring-semester London Program students in the week beginning Monday 11 September. Professor O'Boyle can be reached at coboyle@nd.edu

Student/Alumni Events

We are looking for volunteers for some student/alumni events...

1. Alumni willing to host 2 to 4 students in their homes for dinner this semester. We're keen on providing students with more "local" exposure.

2. Alumni willing to get together with 2 to 3 other alumni and groups of 3 to 4 students for dinner this semester. Scheduling and locale up to you. If you're willing to go the extra mile and be a "team captain" and coordinate with the London Programme, the students, and the alumni, please let me know that as well.

3. Alumni looking for summer interns. Note that visa issues can be taken care of easily via BUNAC.

4. Anything else you might think would be interesting/useful re: student-alumni events. We're open to ideas...

Please contact Krista Nannery or Dr. Cornelius O'Boyle for more details and/or to express interest...

Fall Semester Internships

The London Program is looking to place students in corporate environments for the fall semester of 2006. If you or your firm feel that you would be able to offer one or more students an internship for between ten and fifteen hours a week between mid-August and mid-December of 2006, please contact Cornelus O'Boyle at coboyle@nd.edu by Friday 17 March. This will allow time to advertise the available internships to students and facilitate the interviewing process. Before leaving the USA, the students must apply for student visas which will allow them to seek work. Please note that student interns will have different visa status than non-interns, so the following timeline and guidelines are important:

Timeline
By 17 March: Provide internship description and number of openings to Cornelius O'Boyle.
17-30 March: Internship openings advertised to Fall 2006 students.
By 31 March: Internship applications collected.
By 15 April: Firms conduct telephone interviews.
By 21 April: Notify students of internship status.
By 1 May: Students apply for academic credit. Visa application process begins.

Guidelines
1. Students must work for at least 10 hours a week, but no more than 15 hours a week, when school is in session.
2. Direct compensation of the students is not permitted.
3. The students receive academic credit for their internship, so project-based work with a defined outcome is preferred.
4. Students must apply and be granted permission for academic credit in the semester before leaving campus.
5. An easy commute from Trafalgar square is preferrable.
6. Students have two week-long breaks during the semester, during which they are likely to travel.

If you have any questions regarding what it's like to host a student intern, please contact Krista Nannery at krista.nannery@morningstar.com. For general inquiries, please contact Cornelius O'Boyle at coboyle@nd.edu
